DISCOGRAPHY FROM MY COLLECTION

　Queen Sound 時代を経て聴いても常に変わらず新鮮そのもの。
Nostalgiaの中で聴く懐メロにはなり得ない程に独自の音を作り出していたバンドでした。

　クィーンの前身はブライアン・メイがロジャー・テイラー、ティム・スタッフェルを募って作ったスマイルというバンドでシングル１枚発表後、消滅したのですが後にフレディー・マーキュリーを加え（1970年）、更にオーディションでジョン・ディーコンを加え1971年にクィーンが誕生したと言うことです。
　イギリス本国でのレコードデビューは1973年7月、アメリカは同年10月。
どちらもさほど話題にも成らない程の売れ行きだったようです。そして日本では1974年3月のデビュー。
　
　私がギターサウンド中心に聴いていた時代でしたのでファーストアルバムトップの「Keep Yourself Alive」にははまりました。
この曲の邦題は「炎のロックンロール」,60年代～70年代の曲や映画には原題と似ても似つかない物がかなり多くあり、どうもその辺が私は気に入らなくて、曲のタイトルを覚えるときも邦題を無視して原題で覚えるようにしていたため、日本盤を買ったにもかかわらず、長い間この曲の邦題を勝手に「誘惑のロックンロール」だと勘違いしていたままでした。
確かに「Keep Yourself Alive」は私がクィーンに誘惑されたロックナンバーだったのです。レッドゼッペリンを思い浮かべました。
　ブライアンのギターは確かにペイジに似ています、後に出される「Brighton Rock」あたりのギターソロはもろペイジを連想してしまいますし、「Modern Times Rock and Roll」,「We Will Rock You」はサウンド的にもゼッペリン的でした。
ブライアンは電気工学を勉強していたらしくて彼のギターはハンドメイドです。エフェクターアタッチメントをギターそのものにいくつか仕込んでいたという話を聞いたこと有ります。
　このデビューアルバムの中では「Doing All Right」というコーラスが凄く綺麗な曲が一番好きですが、これは後期ビートルズの曲に似ています・・・というわけでレッドゼッペリンやビートルズの後追いバンド的な感じがすることが英米での評価が低い結果に成ったのでしょう。
　日本で先に人気が出たのは彼らのファッションにも多いに関係有ると思います。騎士の様な真っ白い衣装にアイラインのきいたアイメイク。
まるで中世の王子様やタカラヅカを連想するルックス。華麗な写真デビユーでした。

　洋楽好きな女子中高生中心に人気が出だしたのも納得です。（それでも一部では当時流行っていたグラムロック系のバンドだと思う人も多かったようです。）特にロジャーは可愛くて彼のミニスカート姿や振り袖姿の写真には「何故、こんなに似合うの？」と羨望さえ持ってしまいました。

クィーンの写真が雑誌で発表され出すのと同時に発表されたセカンドアルバムはまさに中世ヨーロッパを連想させるドラマティックな世界。
オペラ的なヴォーカルに自由に走り回るブライアンのギター、ハードロック色もビートルズの陰も無く澄んだ華麗なクィーンの誕生です。（LP盤時代はＡ面・Ｂ面ではなくWhiteサイド・Blackサイドと言われていました）。
　記念的なアルバムでは有りますが、全曲を通して聴くにはそれなりに体制構えて入り込まなくてはならないので、私としては後年あまり聴かなくなったアルバムです。

アルバムとして好きなのは『THE GAME』『JAZZ』あたりのロック色の強い物の方がやはり好きですね。

昔はカセットテープにお気に入り曲を詰めてウォークマンタイプ（わたしの場合はSANYOのJJ）で聴いていました。その後MDに録り直し、更に今はCD-Rに録り直して聴いたりしています。
カセットテープ時代はまんべんなく各アルバムから選曲していましたが、今有るのはCD-R,700MBに詰め込んだ・・・

ファーストアルバムの「Doing All Right」はベスト物や編集物にはなかなか入れてもらえませんが、わたしの選曲では外せません。好きな曲です。
「手をとりあって」に続けると更にバッチリ合いますね。

以前からフレディー・マーキューリーはバイセクシュアルであること、それはファンの間では知られていたことでした。そして1988年頃から急に痩せだした彼がAIDS（エイズ）に侵されていると噂され始めていましたが、彼は当初否定し続けていました。　しかし、フレディーはエイズによる極端な免疫力低下に耐えきれず気管支肺炎に倒れてしまいました。1991年11月24日の事でした。　音楽界に激震が広がった出来事です。フレディーは天才です。才能が満ち溢れていても病魔に勝てない現実を突きつけられました。　ジョン・レノンが1980年12月8日に銃殺されてビートルズが永遠に成ったのと同様、1991年11月24日クィーンが永遠のバンドと成りました。　1995年に発売されたアルバム『MADE IN HEAVEN』は生前のフレディーの歌声を生かし様々なオーバーダビングや加工を施して他のメンバーの想いがいっぱい詰まった追悼アルバムと成っています。アルバム個別としてはファンの多い作品です。

買ったシングル盤です

更新しないまま数年が経ってしまったQueenのページ。フレディ・マーキュリーの死後、編集物や既存ライブ音源の発表ばかりが続いていた中、元フリーのポール・ロジャースをヴォーカルに迎えてツアーを行い2005年に【Returnof the Champions】というライブアルバムを出しました。これはブライアンやロジャーにしてみてはQueenの再結成・再始動をしたいという気持ちが有ったのかも知れません。そして聴衆の反応を見てみたいという思いも有ったのかも知れません。　ポール・ロジャースのヴォーカルは確かに声量豊で超一流なのですが、フレディーの変幻自在のヴォーカルと比べると、質的に異質で「やはり私たちが昔から抱いていたQueen Sound のイメージとは違う」と思ってしまいます。（ポールが正当派で、フレディーがむしろ特異なヴォーカリストだったと思いますが）　ジョン・ディーコンはフレディー以外のヴォーカルでQueenの曲を演奏したくないとの姿勢を持っていたとのことで、この再始動ツアーには参加していませんでしたし、ファンの人達からも再結成を歓迎されなかった模様で続きませんでした。　というわけで2005年以降にも数種の新譜が出ていますが、旧年ライブの発掘音源とか編集物が相次いでいる状態です。

2014年、突然に40年も前のライブ音源が正式発売されました。1974年といえばフレディーマーキュリーがまだマッチョスタイルに成る以前、ロングヘアーでハードロックに近いスピードチューンを結構歌っていた時期ですね。前にも書きましたがやはりサウンドはレッド・ゼップ的な要素があります。　この時期のレインボーシアターでのライヴ音源はＬＰ時代に海賊版で数種出ていました。今回発売されたＣＤの音質は比べ物にならない程の良さです。　2014年終盤に未発表音源３曲を含んだベスト物『QUEEN FOREVER 』が発売されました。　その３曲の未完成だった録音にブライアン・メイとロジャー・テイラーが手を加えて完成させたそうです。元の音源は '80年代に成されていた物ですので、勿論フィレディーやジョンも加わっていたクィーンのオリジナル・フルメンバーです。　「Let Me In Your Heart Again」は '84年『The Works』制作時の録音とのこと。 '70年代風サウンドに聞こえます。フレディーの声もフレディーらしさはあまり感じられませんが曲自体は好きです。　「Love Kills」はフレディーのソロ名義で '84年にシングル発売された曲で、ここではクイーンのメンバーが加わった元ヴァージョンバラードヴァージョンにブライアンとロジャーが手を加えて再編して収録。　「There Must Be More To Life Than This（生命の証）」は故マイケル・ジャクソンとのデュエットで '83年に録音されていながら未完成に成っていた曲。（フレディーはソロ曲として自身のソロ・アルバムないで発表）　曲自体は後期ビートルズを感じました。好きな曲です。そしてこの曲はフレディーのヴォーカルの良さが出ています。　他はブライアンとロジャーが選曲したラブソング集として１枚物が正規盤。　デラックス盤として18曲を追加した２枚組でも同時発売されましたが、更に国内版にはボーナスで「手をとりあって」が追加されています。
